Difference between [cd "%~dp0"] and [pushd "%~dp0"]

There is no common things in booth of this commands. Only the end which points to %~dp0.

%~dp0 stands for current directory where batch file is located. %~dp0 can be used only in batch files NOT directly in command prompt.

pushd works together with popd.
Pushd is father and Popd is just a son of this father.

Imagine you file browser that have two buttons [Up] and [Back].
Sometimes it does the same, but sometimes not.

popd is similar like [Back] button in you file browser and pushd is father that just say to his son to remember something.

popd is lika a cd which already know where to go.
In that case there is a little, little relationship between pushd an cd.

reduce ntuser.dat

Wondering why ntuser.dat size is so great?
You can try out instruction below to decrease size of ntuser.dat.
This can be applied on Windows 2000/XP/2003.

Let's begin
Open regedit and select HKEY_USERS

Select "Load Hive" from File menu. If "Load Hive" is inactive then restart machine.

Select ntuser.dat from
c:\documents and settings\default user or any other users profile.

Type a name of the hive. You can type anything for the name - it doesn't matter. Type for example "pillow".

Load all ntuser.dat files you want to decrease.

Take a look in: "pillow", .DEFAULT and HKCU registry entries.
Search for all these registry entries and look what is inside:
Software\Google\Google toolbar\4.0\quick search
Software\Hewlett-Packard
Printers\Connections
Printers\DevModePerUser
Printers\DevModes2
Printers\Settings

If found something big, then delete it.

Also you can spend some time to meet old-brand new utility called dureg.exe:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/win2000platform/WebPacks/1.00.0.1/NT5/EN-US/Dureg.exe.
21a5c51cdfe8a1d121bccf486e44ac11
72056b4d31350fb575eff1437b46b8c65a200ec8
Dureg.exe can tell you which parts of registry take place in computer heart.

When manual part is done, you can install NT registry Optimizer:
ntregopt-setup.exe
c05d98c46ef775d9482bbf7be65b09d6
55493756df00efc717cddd6dec7dc950e2ab1224

Go Start -> Programs -> NT Registry Optimizer -> NTREGOPT
Reboot computer and all previously loaded ntuser.dat file size is decreased.
Also the loaded ntuser.dat hive now is automatically unloaded

You can delete or move somewhere else ntuser.dat.bak from
c:\documents and settings\default user

If you work with terminal servers, you can delete all user profiles with:
Extract delprof.exe from delprof.msi
This will delete all users who are not currently logged into machine:
delprof.exe /Q /I /P /D:0

Integrate drivers into Windows 7 installation source

Install http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/E/9/8E9BBC64-E6F8-457C-9B8D-F6C9A16E6D6A/KB3AIK_EN.iso
Mirror: https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B-dMykHYTa6KcVM1Z1lqbmd3a00
1e73b24a89eceab9d50585b92db5482f
793f4cc4741ebad223938be0eeee708eda968daa

Make directories r:\offline and r:\drivers.
Copy install.wim from %usbroot%\source to r:\.
Copy all drivers to r:\drivers.
Right click on "Deployment Tools Command Prompt" and select "Run as administrator"
List available windows versions of install.wim and remember index number of your chosen one:
dism /get-wiminfo /wimfile:r:\install.wim
In this example i choose index:3 that means "Windowss 7 PROFFESIONAL"

Now paste whole job thing - extract, integrate and repack:
dism /mount-wim /wimfile:r:\install.wim /index:3 /mountdir:r:\offline & dism /image:r:\offline /add-driver /driver:r:\drivers /recurse & dism /commit-wim /mountdir:r:\offline
Successful output should look like this:
Copy r:\install.wim back to %usbroot%\source.
All done.

Notes:
If you chose wrong index, then drivers will integrate in other version of windows and if this other version of windows is not default state of installation source then there will be no driver integration at all.
If you have at least 16 gigs of RAM, I recommend to use RAM disk in whole process.

Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474) failed

You receive "Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474) failed" launching the windows updated.

This Windows XP computer probably have not been re-installed like 5 years, but it still need to be repaired.

The reason why you can't update PC for 100% is that this update needs special attention to registry permissions which for that long time has damaged.
Maybe your XP still have only SP2 installed? :o

To reset registry permissions you need to use addition microsoft tool called subinacl.exe
http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/7/d/17d82b72-bc6a-4dc8-bfaa-98b37b22b367/subinacl.msi
b23d3e0e4be5ba7da3f0f12e327751cd
3199b43ca6ee8cb44b4e07e2b67e9f93b31a846b

And here is the commands how to reset permissions to all registry sections:
cd /d "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
subinacl /subdirectories %windir%\*.* /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f
secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose
Run this newly created cmd file.
This will runs quite a long time like five minutes or more so be patient.

After the permissions are repaired i prefer to clear all windows update cache to let the computer think that windows updates has never launched. So the PC will be scanned form a-z again.
net stop wuauserv
rd %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution /Q /S
SC sdshow wuauserv
SC sdset wuauserv D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)
wuauclt.exe /detectnow
Go to windows update and install again this update.
